ONE NIGHT IN BEIJING

昨年の夏、『ONE NIGHT IN BEIJING』という写真集プロジェクトに参加した。世界各国から選ばれた30名余の写真家が、2007年8月8日夜、北京の街に散り、それぞれの眼で見た北京の姿を撮るというプロジェクトだ。2007年8月8日とは、中国人の悲願である北京オリンピック開幕のちょうど1年前に当たる。

私は、その夜、北京の中上流階層に属する人々の写真を撮った。
ふだん、あの国のビジネスや政治の中枢にいる人々について、また、文化や芸能の中心にいる人々について、そして、あの国の中で極端に貧しく、また、虐げられた立場にいる人々についての報道を目にする機会は多い。
けれど、あの国で最も多くの人口比を占め、あの国が持っている巨大なエネルギーを最も強い力で支えている中産階級に触れている報道は非常に少ないのではないだろうか。
私の写真が彼らの素顔に少しでも近づき、私たちと同じように、彼らもまた、悩み、疲れ、笑い、巨大な大地の上でせいいっぱい生きているのだと、伝えられていることを願う。

今回このウェブサイトには、写真集『ONE NIGHT IN BEIJING』には未採録だが、同じ夜に撮った写真を掲載する。
被写体になってくれた、楽楽ちゃん、三林、珠珠、李さん親子。被写体探しに協力してくれた日中両国の友人たち、梁先生、張さん、陳さん、渡辺さん、鍛冶知恵さん、Judy、高橋さんに、心からの感謝を捧げます。

＜各写真詳細解説＞

写真1） 楽楽（ルウルウ）
6才の楽楽は週1度、天安門近くにある楽器店内の音楽教室に通っている。

写真2) 珠珠（チュウチュウ）
来年の大学受験を控え、珠珠は毎晩遅くまで勉強している。時には友人が家に来て、一緒に勉強することもある。部屋には韓流アイドルの曲が流れ、机にはかわいらしいぬいぐるみが幾つも並べられている。

写真3&4) 三林（サンリン）
ミュージシャンの三林。ライブがない日は友人が経営するライブハウス兼バーで、深夜まで酒を飲み、音楽や政治について語る。気が向くとギターを弾いてみたりする。

写真5) 哪吒(ナアジャ)
北京の夏の朝の光の中で眠る2才の哪吒。

写真6) 李さんと哪吒
北京郊外に住むエンジニア・李さんの朝は、出勤準備と一人息子の哪吒くんに朝食を食べさせることで忙しい。

ONE NIGHT IN BEIJING

去年夏天、我參加了『北京一夜』寫真集工程。它是於2007年8月8日夜晚、從世界各國選拔來的三十余名攝影家分散在北京的街道上、照下他們親眼看到的北京城。一年後的這一天、正是中國人舉辦北京奧林匹克的夙願得以實現的時刻。
那晚、我照下了北京中上層人們的照片。平時、映入我們外國人眼帘較多的是在那個國家的商業與政治中心中的人們、文化與演藝界的人們、以及處於極端貧困、甚至於被虐待的那些人們的事。然而、關於占據那個國家人口最多的、支撐那個國家所具有的巨大能量的中產階層人們的報道、我們平時很難看到。
其實、他們同我們一樣、有煩惱、有疲勞、也有笑容。他們在那片寬闊的大地上竭盡全力地生存著。若我的照片、能把這些人的真實面孔傳達給大家、我將非常高興。

這次公布在網上的這些照片、未被刊載在『北京一夜』中、但也是那個夜晚拍攝的。
這次的拍攝模特是樂樂、三林、珠珠、李女士母子倆。承蒙梁老師、張先生、陳先生、渡邊先生、鍛治知恵女士、Judy、高橋女士。這些中日友好友人的協助、找到了這些攝影對象。在此深表謝意。

照片1)樂樂
這是六歲的樂樂、一週去一次天安門附近的樂器店內的音樂教室學習音樂。

照片)2 珠珠
這是明年夏天要迎接高考、每晚都學習到很晚的珠珠。房間裡播放著韓國通俗歌手的歌兒、書桌上擺著可愛的玩偶。有的時候同學來、跟她一起學習。

照片3&4） 三林
這位是獨立音樂家・三林。沒有表演的時候就在朋友經營的音樂酒吧裡談論音樂呀、政治方面的事、來了興致的時候就彈上一曲。

照片5） 哪吒
二歲的哪吒在北京夏天的早晨陽光下還沒有覺醒。

照片6) 李女士與她兒子
這位是住在北京郊外的工程師—李女士。她的早晨總是忙忙碌碌的、即要做好上班的準備、還要讓二歲的兒子哪吒吃好。

ONE NIGHT IN BEIJING

Last summer I took part in a photo-album project:“ONE NIGHT IN BEIJING”. The project invited some 30 photographers from countries all over the world who, the night of August 8th 2007, scattered everywhere in Beijing, taking photos of its various facets. August 8th 2007 was a very special night for Chinese people, as it was exactly one year ahead of the eve of the opening of Beijing Olympic games.

That night I took the photos of middle and rather upper class Chinese people. I had a reason for choosing them for my photographs : normally we foreigners have no little opportunity to get access to the reports concerning special Chinese persons who are at the center of Chinese business and politics. We have chance, likewise, to get knowledge about some kind of special Chinese who are central figures of Chinese culture and entertainment world. We have occasions also to get informed about Chinese people who are just surviving in extreme poverty or even struggling, for that matter, to survive under still harder conditions.

The chances are unreasonably scarce, however, to have access to the true face of Chinese middle-class. And yet it is they, the vast majority of Chinese population, who are the wheels, so to speak, to make Chinese power advance.

I hope my photographs may reveal their true face, that is, tell they too are living like us, sometimes in tears, sometimes very tired, and sometimes smiling, on their huge good earth.

The photos I upload here are not the ones included in the album “ONE NIGHT IN BEIJING”, but they are taken in the same night.

photo-1) Lele
Lele, 6 years of age, goes every week to private music school near Tianan-men square.

photo-2 Zhuzhu
Zhuzhu,17 years old,is getting prepared for her university entrance examination with BGM of Korean stars' pop songs and with cute animal stuffed dolls on the desk.Often her classmate comes to study with her till midnight.

photo-3&4) Sanlin
Sanlin, an independent musician, goes to a livehouse-and-bar run by his friend and discussed music,politics and so on when he is off. And he plays guitar when he feels like to.

photo-5) Nazha
Little Nazha,2 years old, is still asleep in the morning sunlight rising on Beijing.

photo-6) Mrs.Li and Nazha
Ms.Li,an engineer living in the suburb of Beijing,is very busy every morning, for getting ready to go to her work, feeding,at the same time, her son Nazha.
